Hear from our Creative Director about the vision for RedCat Multiverse
Hi! My name is Matthew Grau, and Iβm the conductor of the creative train here at RCM Labs. If youβre a gamer, you might know me as one of the creative founders of League of Legends, but who really cares about credits when I can tell you about what Iβm working on right now.
When I met the founding team last November, they seemed like smart people with a vision in a space I found interesting. The company needed someone to come on board and create a multiverse and a viable, fun game to go with it. Having worked in education as a film writer and director at one time, the learning aspect of RCM also piqued my interest.
My first challenge was to figure out precisely what we were making, taking a laundry list of good ideas and giving them a form. After researching the space, I thought a hybrid game would be best. On one hand, we can have a competitive arena, where people can exercise and enjoy characters they get to own. On the other hand, we can create an immersive, level-based adventure with conversation trees to help teach the skills necessary for the changing job market in a really fun way. These two ideas were only the first wave of something much bigger, which will ultimately include digital land, the metaverse and more.
One of the things I enjoy about the multiversal concept is that we have few creative limitations. The game team and I can create all kinds of imaginative characters and they fit. And the same goes for storylines. Every level-based adventure gets to be its own universe, each distinct from one another. If thereβs one thing I love, itβs world-building, and now I get to build a bunch of them in the coming years.
I really like the idea of people owning their game assets. Itβs a lot like collectible cards or miniatures to me. Theyβre goods you own, which you can sell as they become more valuable. Thereβs even the possibility of a smooth exit ramp β when you want to get out of the game, you can sell your assets and may end up making your money back. You donβt get that out of many games - table-top or video.
If you havenβt had a chance to check out our new website at redcatmultiverse.io, please do. You can see some of our first characters in the Multiverse tab, and people seem to think Plikplik is pretty cute.
Until next time,
Matthew Grau
