Meet Indrid Cold, the Smiling Man

Indrid exists in that uncanny valley area, where he’s very close to human but alien enough to make a normal person uncomfortable.

Did that guy with the creepy smile just say something without moving his mouth? Yup, and he’s coming to the RedCat Multiverse! If you haven’t had a chance, check out the #multiverse-characters and #character-forum channels on our public Discord. This is where you (fine humans) can ask us (weirdos from the planet Lanulos) questions about the characters directly, or just talk about the ones you like.

Get ready for awkward conversations with Indrid Cold, the Smiling Man!

Indrid is, by all accounts, basically a nice person, but he has some unnerving characteristics which show he’s not quite human. He exists in that uncanny valley area, where he’s very close to human but alien enough to make a normal person uncomfortable. Of course, telepathically talking to people with a giant unmoving smile only makes things more complicated.

In my research, I was fascinated to discover that the legends of Indrid Cold and the Mothman of Point Pleasant have often been conflated, both from the northeast of the United States. The Mothman was a visitor who presaged disaster, while Indrid Cold was just an explorer from the planet Lanulos interested in hanging out with humans. Lanulos reminds me of lanolin, from sheep’s wool, which is used in many skincare products and likely has no correlation with the legend whatsoever.

As a collectible, Indrid Cold is a Common character, which means there will be plenty of him in the initial supply - and you can get him as part of your Inception Package!

Off to find out who Indrid’s dentist is (because he’s got fabulous teeth),
