Meet Malia, Priestess Of The Sea

blog.redcatmultiverse.io

Is it time to unveil another character from the RedCat Multiverse? Yes it is! If you haven’t had a chance, check out the #multiverse-characters and #character-forum channels on our Discord. This is where you (the audience) can ask us (the inmates from the asylum) questions about the characters directly, or just talk about the ones you like.Ā

With pleasure, I introduce you to Malia!

Malia is a human from our own past, a resident of pre-colonial Tahiti. Lori (one of our talented game designers) enjoys history from that part of the world, and did the research to discover the role of the Tahu’a in Tahitian culture. They were guides for both the natural and spiritual worlds, which was a perfect place for Malia to occupy.

Malia’s flash fiction is the first place I felt I had a good opportunity to work Sanura, The Red Cat, into a story. I hadn’t had her speak before this, so suddenly I was faced with finding a voice for her. Though I was inspired a little by the Cheshire Cat from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, I think I’m finding an original space for her. It’s always interesting writing for a highly-intelligent alien being, and a cosmic-powered one at that, especially since I’m only one of those three things (I’m originally from a small planet in the vicinity of Betelguese).

As a collectible, Malia is an Uncommon Character, which means there will be a good initial supply.

When we launched our website, we announced three characters without fanfare, and we don’t want to leave them out in the cold. We introduced Plikplik last time, we’ll talk about Wells next time, so that means we’re introducing Fu Yijun, Dragon of Wisdom, today!

Fu Yijun is an eastern-inspired dragon (I’m fond of our entire dragon category personally). Casey (another one of our outstanding game designers) is a fan of myths across Southeast Asia, and dialed Fu Yijun in as a dragon of spring, associated with sowing. The dragon sows the seeds of wisdom, so it all made sense. Interestingly enough Casey keeps bees, so there’s a fun fact about bees in his lore, too.

I like writing for Fu Yijun, because he’s a character who understands the wisdom in saying ā€œI don’t know.ā€ He doesn’t have all the answers,Ā  admits he doesn’t have all the answers, and knows he’ll never have all the answers. As Socrates said, ā€œThe only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.ā€

As a collectible, Fu Yijun is also an Uncommon Character, so there will be a good initial supply.

I hope you like them! We’ve had a lot of fun creating them. Join our Discord to discuss these characters with the rest of our community.Ā

Until we meet again,

Matthew Grau

Creative Director

I like the ocean, and I like Malia. A wonderful personage and character. Unfortunately, I've never been to Tahiti, but I hope I will.
