Meet Risk, the Gambler
Nailing down the avatar of risk wasn’t as simple as it sounds. It’s easy to start with chance or probability, but those are only aspects of risk.
What are the odds we’re introducing a new character this week? It’s a sure bet! If you haven’t had a chance, check out the #multiverse-characters and #character-forum channels on our public Discord. This is where you (the games of chance loving public) can ask us (the card dealers) questions about the characters directly, or just talk about the ones you like.
Prepare yourself for a wager as we present Risk, a concept personified!
Nailing down the avatar of risk wasn’t as simple as it sounds. It’s easy to start with chance or probability, but those are only aspects of risk. There’s a chance, no matter how small, that my lunch will upset my stomach, but that’s not something I regard as a risk when I make a sandwich. Investing money is risky, because you can’t just take Pepto-Bismol if the investment fails to make yourself feel better. You have to have something significant to lose in your quest for reward for it to truly be risk, so it’s no surprise that its avatar has chosen to manifest as a gambler in the modern day.
To make certain I was representing the game properly in the flash fiction, I got to do some research on how to play Blackjack/21 more effectively. I’ve never been terrible at the game, usually breaking even at the end of the night, but I feel like I’ll have more luck at the tables next time. It’s funny the things you end up learning when you’re writing for a multiverse.
As a collectible, Risk is a Common character, which means he’ll be pretty easy to acquire - and you can get him as part of your RCM Inception Package!
